Biography

MONICA JACOBS is a contemporary international artist based in England, known for creating Catholic art and commissions rooted in prayer and sacred tradition.

With over thirty years professional practice, her extensive portfolio includes a catalogue of prints, paintings and contemporary cards of saints old and new.

As a specialist printmaker, painter, sculptor and illustrator, her art is appreciated for its prayerful narratives. Using print methods from intaglio, woodcuts, silkscreen, linocuts and monotypes, each image is a unique meditation promoting the adoration of Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the intercession of the heavenly saints.

Monica at an early age was affected by the lives of saints and artists who threw a strong visual punch. Studying the works of Stanley Spencer, Bruegel and Fra Angelico she would also take inspiration from Russian, Polish, Scottish and Flemish painters.

Her appreciation of icons and the mysterious catacomb prayer murals and medieval manuscripts are images that also drive and direct her working practice.

Her prints often feature multiple layers and use varying scale to create complex compositions that reveal new details upon closer viewing. This is to encourage a more intimate experience and personal interpretation by the viewer. Regardless of the medium used Monicas common thread is stillness, gaze and prayerful meditation.

Monica Jacobs has an extensive portfolio and her commissions are known and appreciated for their catholic, sacred presence and imagery.A distinctive authentic catholic style which brings new life and insight into the reality of prayer and all things sacred.

With works entitled "the Eucharist Face", "Reservoirs of grace", and "beloved", her art work is considered and always aims to draw the viewer closer to the real presence of God and the sacred heart of Jesus.
